Tuckerman Ravine

Good visibility today with limited evidence of a natural avalanche cycle from the December 24th storm. No crown lines observed in Tuckerman Ravine, however old debris was seen on the floor coming out of Sluice and Chicken Rock Gully. Sun was prominent on the south facing aspects. At 4500 feet of elevation on a southern aspect, I dug down to see how snow was bonding to the old ice crust from December 11th. Column test results we unreactive and the snow was fairly uniform above the stout crust. Wind textured snow was visible at the upper elevations in the Ravine.

A report from a skier in Sluice said that the sun had affected the snow enough to feel "like velcro" on his intial turns. Northeast aspects were shaded the entire time I was in the Ravine.
