Quick report
Overall a great day in silver basin. The base of crystal had very little snow, probably around 40 cm, almost all from the recent storm. As we ascended in elevation and headed south towards silver basin, the snow depth increased significantly, to ~100 cm at 6000’, at the bottom of the silver basin bowl. We did not see any indications of wind transport or notice and wind-affected snow, even at the very top of silver basin the ski tracks from yesterday were barely covered up. The old snow below the ~2 feet of new snow in silver basin was still wet, and fairly well bonded to the new snow. We didn’t feel or hit any firm crust except when we were in the ski area. Weather was mostly cloudy with some sun breaks, stayed fairly cold until we left around noon.
Avalanche
SW side of Silver basin, in the rocky steep section skiers left of the saddle. Another skier released a dry slough when skiing down through these steep rocks, it ran ~300 feet, but did not entrain very much snow
