Quick report
Light to no wind most of the day. Very Sunny day up high and valleys looked to be inverted in fog. From the ridge line looking down the Sawtooth range the valleys were inverted from Cape Horn all the way to what looked like maybe Red Fish area. Started to burn off around 2pm at least on the north end of the range. South facing slopes in open areas signs of Surface hoar starting to grow around 7,800 feet. Also found it on top of the ridge line at 8,900 ft. Saw old crown lines on north facing slopes just below ridge line . Likely happened before the last storm. Dug on a NNW slope at 8600ft snow depth was 117cm 2 cm thick weak melt freeze crust on top with Surface hoar on surface. 115- 103cm pretty sugary facets. Snow got a little stronger 103–80cm . 80-76cm very strong melt freeze crust. 76-49cm very stout slab 49-25cm faceted town just that big grain loud sugar. 25-20 crust but not very strong. 20-0 sugar old snow from early season snowfalls. Had a ECTX I couldn’t get it to move through the stout slab and melt freeze crust mid snowpack. When I put shovel behind the column and pride forward slab propagated the length of the slab on the facets at 49cm.
