Snowpack

Snowpack still shallow and highly variable. Snowpack depths were I traveled averaged 50-60 cm. Small pockets of wind slab were found at the snow surface from stronger southwest and northwest winds last weekend. These ranged in depth from 5-15 cm and were at most 20 feet in diameter. They were 1F to pencil hard, resting above a layer of small faceted snow grains. Along the edges of the wind slabs, the snowpack quickly became shallow and unsupportive made up of entirely faceted snow grains. Found a mid pack surface hoar layer with grains 4-6 mm in size.
