Mt. Baker Backcountry

Many signs of instability from the weekend plus wind transport and snow during the day had us traveling cautiously. On the steepest single turn of the day we remotely triggered a soft slab that was relatively shallow, yet propagated quite far. With this slight steepening of the slope being enough to trigger the avalanche, we were reminded that slope angle was extremely important. We dug a pit above the traverse past C8 and got CT15 and ECT22 sudden planar on rounding facets about 76cm down from the surface, and ~5cm above the rain crust. Other parties reported similar shallow soft slabs that propagated widely in Mazama Bowl.
