Gulf of Slides

Tree Well Hazard - Not what comes to mind when you think of Eastern ski hazards. On Saturday afternoon while exiting the snow fields in the Gulf of Slides our party of 3 (2-Skiers, 1- Snowboarder) were traversing through the trees when one of the skiers plunged through the snow to his chest. The rotten snow continued to collapse as he struggled to remove his ski. By the time the other two in the party were able to assist, the skier had sunk fully below the snow. Skis, poles and pack were finally removed and placed as support at the edge of the hole to helped the skier self extract. He was finally able to pull himself out by climbing up on branches and tree tops.
