Heather Canyon

We generally observed 35-40 cm of new low-density storm snow. In most areas below 6500 ft, this new snow was well bonded to the wet grains at the new /old snow interface and had a favorable right-side-up structure above this. We could trigger small, dry loose sluffs on shaded, steeper convexities and found more significant instabilities in the typical wind-loaded areas (east aspects near ridgelines). West winds ramped up into the strong range by the afternoon, which started drifting significant amounts of new snow onto leeward aspect above 6000 ft. Sun breaks were short-lived and limited throughout the day. However, there was enough solar to create a thin sun crust on west/south aspects below 5500 ft by the end of our tour.
