Took advantage of lift access for one more day and found pleasant riding conditions on various aspects adjacent to WMR today

  • 12-14 cm of overnight snow stayed dry at upper elevations throughout the day.
  • Surface snow turned moist around 5500', but was still in good shape.
  • Small shooting cracks failing on new/old snow interface while skinning at mid and upper elevations in AM.
  • Found one recent soft slab crown and was able to intentionally trigger another on steep convex rollovers on northerly aspects. see avalanche tab.

overcast with heavy fog in the AM, transitioned to just overcast. winds were light in AM, however, increased by mid-afternoon with moderate gusts along ridgelines.

  • No signs of wind transported snow overnight or today.
  • Moist surface snow around 5500' on northerly aspects by mid afternoon.

Used a small convex rollover to test the stability of recent storm snow. This was about 300' from the other avalanche triggered by a skier. Storm snow was failing on a small layer of facet crystals on the surface of weak crust formed yesterday afternoon.
