Snowpack

Snow Surface: F-hard 2-4 cm of fresh, low density snow on Southern aspects above a P-hard 2cm supportable solar crust. A previous wet-loose point release was within our fall line from <24 hours prior. The primary change in snowpack conditions on southern aspects have been hardening of the two solar crusts (NEAR SURFACE & MIDPACK). Height of snow (HS) is variable ranging from 40-80 cm on most S aspects with 100-120cm in loaded micro-drainages and wind loaded aspects. Surface conditions may present with the most risk in early morning hours when melt-freeze crusts and stiff conditions are supportable and slick. Point releases are pointing towards melting at higher elevations which could be a hazard to a skier, rider or recreational enthusiast could cause an impact to potentially trigger a weak layer. Ski Conditions: Ski conditions are variable, but overall consistent during pre-warming morning hours. Low density snow (which may only stick around for a few more days) provide pleasant turns, as long as the 2-4cm Solar crust is supportable in specific areas. Rock, talus and plants are sticking through the surface in many regions (all aspects), so careful assessment of surface conditions and texture is necessary. Lower Sundance Bowl(at lower elevations overall), surfaces become soft by PM and may potentially refreeze and become slick.
