Quick report
We skied Divide on New Year's Day. Cloudy all day with somewhat flat light but no avalanches observed in the basins and peaks we could see. Dug a pit to the ground around 9600ft on the standard ascent on SE aspect. HS 100cm and fairly uniform 1F density to the ground with the exception of a couple crusts in the upper snowpack, but surprisingly did not find the weaker facets on the ground- it was still 1F density at the bottom of the snowpack. The surface crust that formed the past couple of sunny days and didn't break down today with the cloud cover was up to 1in thick in places and quite stout on anything solar. We got an ECTN26 right below the second crust down that sits underneath last weekend's snow (15-20cm down) with a messy and un-energized break. It broke on a very thin layer of small grained facets below the crust that were not obvious when just looking at the pit wall. We skied the standard SE slope on a mix of breakable crust and creamy old pow. Coverage was good on the egress.
