Mail Cabin

Impressive amounts of collapsing on the solar aspects near Mail Cabin area while putting in the uptracks. Subsequent groups that walked up after experienced collapsing as well. There are a myriad of facet crust sandwich combos on the solars. I also, with good results, jumped on a small test slope near the bottom of one of my runs which was around 35+ degrees and got a thunderous collapse and air audible as the slab collapsed. I’m surprised it didn’t pull out the short distance (100’) but it benched quickly, and stayed in place. However it was the feedback I was looking for in this layer’s reactivity. I also dug in a zone where I wasn’t experiencing collapsing as I was curious to see if I could get propagation on the same layer. I did - ECTP13 down 42cm, on a the same facets above the old MFcr, on the new old interface. One note, the HST was averaging 60cm, but less so in this pit. You’ll also notice from the photo that there are a couple facet crust combos (pencil hard crusts) and throughout my travels they were evident. The widespread collapsing I believe was occurring on the facet/crust combo just below the new/old interface and above the more robust melt freeze crust (approx knife hard). Not the best structure. Protected polar aspects were much less nerve-racking. The winded areas were producing easy wind slabs triggered by ski cuts in the pm.
