Quick report
Skinned up to West Willow peak and dug a pit on the eastern/south eastern aspect of the first bowl past WW summit proper. -Snow depth was ~155cm on a 29 degree E/SE aspect. -Snow hardness tests reflected a generally right-side up snowpack on this slope. -ECT test was unable to produce collapsing or propagation within on the recent storm slab, or the buried problem layer. -Collapsing was seen after moving to the opposite side of the ECT column at approximately ECT ~45. While the problem layers noted in the recent forecast were both visible, it took significant effort to get them to react. Interestingly, when we used shovels in an attempt to get our column to slide, the failure took place deeper into the snowpack (see photos) than the aforementioned buried problem layer. Overall, the conditions were more homogenous and less reactive than anticipated - given the recent E/SE winds, we had expected to see more wind slab, though this slope does stay slightly more sheltered than some of the others in this bowl, and wouldn't have likely seen any lee component in the recent storms. We skied this bowl without any signs of instability. *Another party skiing a slope on a similar aspect approximately 250m south of us noted collapse in their pit at ECT 29*.
