Quick report

Jeff Thompson and I went out to Quartz Creek saddle from the Trestle creek parking, and dug pits close to the road. Snowpack is still thin at all elevations accessed, and especially thin on the southerly aspects. Soft snow on top of more consolidated older snow and a supportable crust make for a stable snowpack; primary hazards are still hidden rocks and trees.

Snowpack

Moist, shallow snowpack, ~60 cm. Faceting throughout snowpack, with a lot of water present. Early snow (bottom 30cm) consists of facets, with the early Dec rain crust and loose, faceting rounds above that. There is a thin near-surface crust (~5cm down) and some surface hoar forming. No signs of instability in compression tests.
