Quick report

I took a quick trip to Bishop Creek to look at persistent weak layers before they get buried by heavy loading. I also watched the wind blowing snow and noted snow surfaces. I only got blown over once!

Moderate to strong southwest wind creating consistent moderate blowing snow and periods of intense blowing snow near and above treeline.

Snowpack

Snowpack tests in a representative profile at 9500 feet on a northeast, typically wind-drifted slope, highlighted the basal facets. These have improved: some are smaller and rounding, the top of the layer no longer uniformly stretches above ground anchors. I had to expand my hole a few feet to get uninterrupted columns to test. I got sudden CTH results, ECTN H results, and PST 33/100 END (which shows the propensity for the depth hoar layer to propagate a failure).
