I toured up to Castle Peak North Bowl to see how the new storm snow was settling on N aspects. Snow on the ridgeline and ~100 ft down the North Bowl showed many signs of wind effect: spindrift, slabbing, ripples, and cornices. In the more protected lower areas of the North Bowl, 15-30cm of new storm snow was only mildly consolidated and made for great skiing. I only observed mild sloughing on the way down. Calm winds except at the ridge, where there was a good northerly breeze that was pushing snow back from the southerly storm winds. I dug a pit in a sparsely treed area on the protected eastern rim of the North Bowl (NW aspect). New storm snow failed on the old surface crust but no propagation. I observed basal facets but despite going well beyond 30 taps I could not get any reactivity. By afternoon, S aspects had formed sun and wind crusts.
