Quick report
We toured up to St. Mary's under warm temperatures and mostly cloudy skies. We were able to drive up the road to a switchback at 6100'. We dug a pit below the summit on an E aspect around 9200'. Snow was hard (P+) and well bonded (ECTX). There was a thin ~4" wind crust on top where we dug but it was not reactive in our pit test. We did observe occasional localized cracking under our skis throughout the day in small wind loaded pockets but the cracking was very sporadic and did not propagate. We chose to ski an E facing slope below the summit, and while the skiing was not very good we had no concerns about stability. There were occasional gust of wind to 20+ MPH along ridges, but we observed no visible snow transport. We found poorly bonded, sugary snow on a NW aspect between 7600' and 8000' on our skin out of the Sharrott Creek drainage. I suspect that if it ever snows again, preserved facets on the northern half of the compass will become a problematic weak layer. Skiing back to the car on low angle South facing aspects around 3 PM, snow was starting to get wet and heavy but we didn't create any roller balls or observe any other precursors to wet slides.
