Quick report
Nothing of interest to report for stability concerns -- as forecast in the avy bulletin, snowpack was pretty much one big frozen mass that gradually softened up as anticipated. But here are some snowpack coverage observations from a wide-ranging tour: https://www.strava.com/activities/8868857075 ... although the focus of the bullet points below is only on the West Side, and melting is obviously going to be rapid since my observations from Monday. - Overall, almost everything in great shape, so only the exceptions are specifically called out here. - AR Central is melted out, or perhaps never even filled in this year? Either way, numerous discontinuities that look scary from a distance even while skinning up the lower ART and casually glancing up. - I did not get a good view of AR South, but most likely an impenetrable forest. - Cog is amazingly good from the hiker parking lot to about 5200'. Above that all the way to the road crossing, probably almost nonexistent by the time you’re reading this. My descent from the road crossing to entering Burt Ravine was a mix of snowplowing over water ice (fortunately on low pitches!), and casual downhiking. If you plan to reach the top of Airplane Gully from the road crossing, be prepared to hike the entire way! And if you plan to descend from the summit along the Cog, you might want to reconsider your plan! - I did not get a good view of Monroe Brook. But should be plenty of reports from those who actually skied it.
