We spent the last couple of days up at Jim Lakes At the beginning of the trip the snow was great in shady aspects, we saw no obvious signs of instability and felt comfortable skiing steep terrain. Sunny slopes developed a breakable melt freeze crust on sunny slopes. Large temperature swings and cold nights were growing surface hoar and near surface facets. The weather changed the evening of the 1st with weather moving in. It started with rain at 6200' and continued with mixed precipitation, destroying the surface hoar and near surface facets, leaving behind maybe 3" of very heavy snow/slush.
