Snug Harbor

We rode from Snug Harbor almost to Lost Lake to check out conditions. Strong northwest winds greeted us for most of the ride which reduced the snow surface to hard wind hammered snow or ice. The ridgelines above where transporting large amounts of snow into fresh wind slabs below the ridges and cross loaded gullies. We did not see any recent avalanche activity but the blowing snow could have covered them up. There wasn't enough snow to affect the weaker layers of snow deeper in the snowpack from Fridays storm so for now the biggest concern we saw was the potential for wind slab avalanches. The snow was so light that dry loose avalanches may also run further than expected on steep slopes.
