Elk Mountain east face

We traveled to the east side of Elk Mountain in southern Glacier Park to observe recent and current wet loose activity.

• Moderate north and east winds kept the snow surface cool on slopes facing the wind at mid and upper elevations. 
• Patches of 2-5" of dry snow remain on northerly aspects and in heavily wooded terrain.
• Slopes sheltered from the wind warmed, but fresh rollerballs were sparse, and no wet loose slides were observed today.
• We noted wet loose slides on an east-facing aspect at upper elevations from the previous day or two.  The debris ran over 1000 feet. 
• The east face we traveled is worse for the wear after a season of low snow and scouring from winds.

There were rollerballs and a few wet loose slides from the previous day or two. Otherwise, the wet loose problem was quiet on the slopes we traveled and could see.
