Red Flags
Cracking, Collapsing, Poor Snowpack Structure

Went up to Lake Blanche and beyond to take a look at the coverage in the upper elevations. Immediately after leaving the trail and heading west of sundial we experienced an incredible amount of collapsing which continued all the way up our low angle route to the saddle south of sundial. Snow surface ranged everywhere from firm wind board, to a zipper crust, to dense powder in the sheltered areas. Wind has taken its toll on most of the terrain above treeline. Skiing and skinning is not possible until around 8,000' and is difficult until above the lake. Nevertheless, a beautiful day to be up higher in the mountains
