Interesting winter so far, eh? Went for a tour up Black Butte Breek in the Southern Gallatins today. While gaining the western ridge of Big Horn Peak, we had many collapses and propagation cracks from 8,000 to 9,500 ft on W\SW. No recent avalanche activity observed in the area, but wouldn’t trust steep slopes on polar aspects. Solar aspects had a supportable crust with 6-12 inches of new snow, which seemed well-bonded from this week's snow. Active wind loading above tree line all day.
