Quick report
Toured around Hyak in the early afternoon. The sun was out though temps stayed below freezing. Shaded aspects stayed cold and held dry unconsolidated powder which skied nicely where it wasn't already tracked out. No wind effect observed. Dug a quick pit at 3700' N aspect. HS = 80cm. Found 25cm of dry powder on top of the recent rain crust. The new snow is well bonded to the crust but there seems to be a thin weak layer directly under the crust. During a CT the column failed cleanly at this layer at 15 taps (see photo). Despite this I observed no signs of instability during my tour
