We rode in the Central Bear River Range today. We found very sensitive storm slabs and long running sluffs on terrain over about 32 degrees.
We had several 50 foot wide by 6-8 inches deep slabs fail at the new/old snow interface. The slab avalanches failed on north facing steeper slopes around 35 degrees and all above 9000 feet elevation (see the .gif and pictures). The slab avalanches slowed down and stopped as soon as the slope angle decreased to around 30 degrees.
We had around ten more long running sluffs sliding on slopes as low as 32 degrees. Some of these sluffs ran 500+ plus vertical feet and packed a good punch, piling up several feet deep.
The snow was light powder during the morning, then around 1:00 in the afternoon quickly changed to wet snow (Above 9000 feet). By the time we made it back to the parking lot most slopes were a sloppy mess.
