Quick report
The snow line began around 2,700’ on the drive up around 9:30am. Seemingly ~10” accumulated at Heather Meadows the day prior based on telemetry. Visibility was limited throughout the day, with another 6-8” observed after returning to the car at 1pm. Didn’t experience or observe obvious signs of instability on the ascent, but knowledge of recent avalanche activity and snow totals kept us to a conservative mindset. Toured to Artist Point, then dropped in to 10 Minute Trees via the knoll just above it. Ski conditions were enjoyable and deep. Cutting rider's left at ~4,600’, triggered a slab (D1) on a N aspect ranging up to 1’ in depth, 75’ wide, and ran about 100’. Notable energy to the release and propagation to nearby anchors/features. No one in the party was caught/carried. Overall, a minor event that could’ve had more serious implications in different terrain. A generous reminder to stay sharp early season, mind the red flags when planning your day (recent avalanches, heavy snowfall), and align on how your party will descend together before dropping in (mitigating exposure in smaller groups, communication plans in low vis).
