Quick report
There was 2-3" of new snow at the tree line and well over a foot at the summit. Winds had formed snowdrifts 3-4 feet deep above 5000'. In the early morning, there was a crust 1-8" deep depending on the geography. Soft snow beneath and, in places, another firm layer several inches below the first. All of that softened in the afternoon sun, but not enough that roller balls formed. Above 6000', the snow stayed cold all day. There were drifts several feet deep and a slab several inches thick over the softer snow on east and south aspects. Above 7700 feet there was wind scoured snow and rime ice with occasional deep drifts. Down bound skiers left deep tracks that sometimes turned up large blocks off snow on turns (see pics). Winds were moving a lot of snow all day above 6000', especially above 7000' where winds were around 20 with gust to 30 mph. Clear and sunny, well below freezing on the upper mountain. No fresh avalanches today and skiers traversing steep wind loaded slopes did not trigger anything. There were just a couple of small roller balls on you steep SW aspect ridge at about 4500'. There is no snow at Marble Mtn with skin-able snow starting 1.5 miles up the trail.
