SC for 12.02 Moderately bonded windslab on N, NE, E, SE aspects above 950m. Gully tops and corrie rims. Avalanche hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Moderately bonded windslab will continue to build in very steep, confined areas on North through East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. Steep gully tops and corrie rims will be most affected. Isolated and avoidable patches of windslab will affect some North-West aspects. The snowpack will slowly consolidate as the freezing level rises. The old snowpack will be well bonded and lower lying snow will slowly thaw. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force Southerly winds will veer South-Westerly. Snow showers throughout the forecast period. These will turn to sleet below all but the highest summits for a few hours as the freezing level rises to around 1100 metres. Observed Weather Influences: A dry day with strong summit winds from the West. The freezing level was around 600 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Isolated areas of moderately bonded windslab have developed on steep North, through East to South aspects above 800 metres. Areas particularly affected are tops of gullies, corrie rims and other wind sheltered areas. Wind exposed areas are scoured and any old existing snow is stable, firm and well bonded. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
