TO for 08.01. Windslab instabilities forming and gaining depth on NW to NE aspects above 900m. Cornices! Moderate Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: The old snowpack will remain generally well bonded and stable on most aspects. By the early hours accumulations of windslab will begin to develop, and where they gain depth at higher elevations, localised instabilities will begin to affect wind sheltered steep terrain on North-West to North-East aspects above 900 meters. The tops of gullies and scarp slopes being particularity affected. Unstable cornices will develop. Southerly aspects will become scoured. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force South-South-East winds will veer to the South then South-South-Westerly, remaining gale force overnight then reduce in strength, becoming strong. There will be scattered showers overnight, wintry at higher levels falling as heavy sleet and snow. The freezing level will hover around 700-900 meters throughout the period. Observed Weather Influences: It has been a dry day with some brighter periods. Winds have been strong Southerly. The freezing level was around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snow has depleted overnight becoming more patchy with some firming at higher levels where the snow has refrozen in the cooler temperatures. The snowpack is generally well consolidated and stable at all elevations and aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
