Avalanche Activity

GC5/1 Light new snow+rain. surface wet snow instabilities sheltered gullies+steep scarp slopes Av hazard Low cornices prone collapse

Forecast Snow Stability: General stability will remain good on all but the steepest slopes where surface wet snow instabilities will be possible, areas affected greatest will be summit gullies and steep scarp slopes, cornices will remain prone to collapse. New snow amounts are not expected to be significant. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Mostly dry conditions overnight and through the morning then rain preceded by light snow over the summits. The freezing level will initially be 600 metres rising to around 1700 metres through the day. Light winds in the morning will become generally South-Easterly strong through the day. Observed Weather Influences: Mild and wet conditions affected the area overnight, today has been largely dry and cooler. The freezing level is around 1200 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Mild and wet conditions overnight reduced the snow cover particularly at lower levels. Stability is generally good on all but the steepest slopes where surface wet snow instabilities exist. Remaining cornices are suspect. The avalanche hazard is Low.
