Avalanche Activity

Wet and gliding snow at intermediate altitudes. In very isolated cases weak layers exist in the old snowpack above approximately 1800 m. Avalanches can be released on very steep shady slopes.

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation individual small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 1800 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep sunny slopes and in gullies and bowls. Avalanches can in isolated cases be released by people or triggered naturally. On very steep shady slopes and at high altitude more slab avalanches are possible, even medium-sized ones. These can be released, mostly by large loads. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack above approximately 1800 m and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack will be generally favourable. As a consequence of mild temperatures and solar radiation the snowpack settled. Slight increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep sunny slopes below approximately 1800 m and in gullies and bowls. In very isolated cases weak layers exist in the old snowpack above approximately 1800 m. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften during the day.
