The large quantity of fresh snow and the wind slabs represent the main danger. Over a wide area new snow is lying on a hard crust. The new snow is poorly bonded. In all aspects and at intermediate and high altitudes medium-sized and large avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of new snow and strong wind. Avalanches can reach valley bottoms and in isolated cases endanger exposed transportation routes. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

Up to 100 cm of snow, and up to 130 cm in some localities, has fallen since Saturday. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The moderate wind has transported the new snow. The old snowpack is well consolidated and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. Intermediate and high altitudes: Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes.

The avalanche danger will not decrease for the time being.
