Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will develop through the period mainly on North-West through North to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. The older snowpack will become firm and stable in the lower temperatures. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force South-Westerly winds overnight will ease to become strong during the day. Snow showers throughout the period, heaviest overnight. The freezing level will be around 400 metres overnight rising to 600 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Showers fell as snow to gradually lower levels through the day. Storm force West-South-Westerly winds eased to become gale force. The freezing level dropped from 1250 metres in the morning to 600 metres in the afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: Areas of fresh unstable windslab are present mainly on North-West through North to South-East aspects above 1000 metres. Fragile cornices are present above these aspects. The older snowpack has good stability. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
