Avalanche Activity

The more recent wind slabs are easy to recognise.

Very steep slopes as well as adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas: In some localities small wind slabs formed. These can be released even by a single winter sport participant. Isolated mostly small loose snow avalanches are possible in particular on sunny slopes. In steep rocky terrain and on very steep slopes the likelihood of avalanches is higher. Above approximately 700 m snow will fall during the night. The southeasterly wind will transport the new snow. Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow of Sunday has bonded well with the old snowpack. The old snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a crust that is strong in many cases. Less snow than usual is lying. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack.

Tendency

In the course of the day possibly danger level 3 (considerable) will be reached in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation above approximately 2000 m.
