Avalanche Activity

New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.

In the late morning the natural avalanche activity will increase. An increasing number of small and medium-sized dry and wet avalanches are to be expected. As a consequence of falling temperatures and low relative humidity the snowpack will consolidate in the evening. The more recent wind slabs of the last two days are to be avoided as far as possible above approximately 2600 m. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the high Alpine regions, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

From late morning the weather will be mostly sunny. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area. Over a wide area new snow is lying on a moist old snowpack. These conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snowpack towards the evening in all aspects.
