In sintesi

Triggering a 2-4' wind slab is still possible today in the alpine.  These wind slabs will most likley be found near ridgeline on N-NW-NE facing slopes.  Triggering a wind slab of this nature could possibly put enough inertia into the snowpack to step down to old persistent weak layers buried lower in the snowpack.

With significant snow available for transport, wind slabs have grown above treeline 2-4' thick.  Use terrain as your ally, and stick to ridgelines and other high ground if you suspect wind loading.

The liklihood of triggering a persistent slab will again increase this weekend, as moderate to strong winds will load N facing slopes and add weight to the weak underlying snow structure.  Avoidance is the best practice, as predicing when the balance will be tipped between stress and strength is nearly impossible.  You don't want to be the additional weight necessary to "trigger" one of these deep instabilities.

Avalanche Discussion

Relatively benign weather will start out the day, with winds ramping up this afternoon and evening.  With 1'+ of fresh snow from earlier this week, there's a lot of snow available for transport.  Avalanche danger will begin to rise quickly, as fresh wind slabs begin to build.
