Generally safe avalanche conditions are currently present.  You still may find lingering wind slabs at upper elevations, and the occasional wet loose avalanche at lower elevations.  Travel conditions are challenging with variable snow surfaces everywhere, and below treeline you will find open creeks and downed trees as well.

We’re in a settled period right now after an atmospheric river dumped over 5” of water (much of it rain beneath 6000’) on us last week. A large avalanche cycle occurred during that time. A few wind slabs and wet loose avalanches happened in the last few days but the likelihood for those is decreasing.  

Your biggest challenge on Tuesday is navigating the terrain, especially at lower elevations where an abundance of downed trees and branches are present, in addition to open creeks. I had quite a few challenging creek crossings during my outing on Thursday, some of which required taking my skis off, and once they were almost taken downriver.  I found snowline starting at about 2400ft, and there’s 10ft of snow when you reach 5000ft in elevation. Snow surface conditions also make for difficult travel- icy patches are present, and there is a breakable crust in spots. Considering preparing for your outing on Tuesday by adding equipment you find necessary for arresting a fall on icy surfaces.  

During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, continue to follow the latest guidance from local, state, and federal health officials. Avoid unnecessary risks that could impact first responders and stress medical resources.  Wear a mask when appropriate, practice social distancing, and consider recreating closer to home.
