Wind from the west-northwest will move more snow from the fetch of upper elevations building the largest slabs in primarily east facing terrain. Upper elevation terrain has more wind exposure and more scouring, resulting in more travel options that avoid the wind slabs, if you can withstand the wind and cold to get there. Natural avalanches may be possible where drifting snow accumulates the most, including the lower half of steep gullies where spin-drifting snow steadily accumulates during active loading events. Freshly formed slabs of wind drifted snow at these wind speeds will be on the softer side (1F) and reactive to a human trigger but as wind speeds increase, these slabs will be stiffer and may fail under their own weight. The Tuckerman Ravine headwall from Left Gully to Sluice are the target areas with the greatest potential for a large avalanche today. Fresh avalanche debris was seen on the floor of Tuckerman Ravine from naturally occurring avalanches.
