Since last Thursday over two feet of snow has fallen in a large portion of the southern San Juan Mountains. This snow rests over very weak, soft, collapsible snow layers. You can trigger an avalanche that breaks beneath the new snow in many places. The most dangerous slopes, and most dangerous avalanches, and on slopes that were recently wind loaded. Avoid traveling on or below these slopes. Collapsing sounds and shooting cracks are sure signs of instability.
