The General Avalanche Hazard at Upper elevations is MODERATE. Five inches of new, heavy snow with southerly winds has been drifted to lee slopes. The new snow rests on recent lighter density snow creating easily triggered slabs to two feet in depth. At Mid elevations the Hazard is LOW. At Low elevations the hazard is MODERATE as overnight rain and warm temperatures continue to heat the snowpack. In steep areas such as road cuts and ravines triggered or naturally starting heavy, dangerous, wet slides are possible.

A cold front will provide colder overnight temperatures tonight and a surface crust at all elevations. As temperatures cool a few inches of snow may fall by mid morning Thursday before snow showers taper off and skies begin to at least partly clear. Mountain highs are expected to be in the low thirties. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The General Avalanche Hazard tomorrow is expected to be LOW at all elevations in the morning and increase to MODERATE in the afternoon as increasing temperatures and sunlight weaken the snow surface and provide for the possibility of wet slides.
