Avalanche Summary

You are most likely to trigger an avalanche on north through east to southeast-facing slopes where strong winds will drift the new snow into a thick, cohesive slab. Steer clear of steep slopes where you find evidence of wind-drifted snow like a lens-shaped pillow, fresh cornices forming, or recent avalanche activity. If you trigger an avalanche within the new snow, it can step down into a buried weak layer creating a large and dangerous slide. Seek wind-sheltered slopes and slopes below treeline for safer riding options.
