Strong southwest to northwest winds and new snow Friday increased the load on existing slabs and created pockets of shallow wind slab up to a foot deep on leeward aspects at upper elevations. People who venture into steep avalanche starting zones could trigger slab avalanches up to 30 inches deep. Shallow areas of snow over steep cliff bands and chutes should be avoided. Mostly stable snow exists at the mid and lower elevations.

Pacific moisture ahead of a cold front will move into western Wyoming Monday bringing areas of light snow over the mountains. Winds will be westerly at 25 in the morning then move to northwesterly and slow in the afternoon. Accumulations of two to three inches of snow are forecasted by Monday evening.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at upper elevations (9,000 to 10,500 feet). People who travel into very steep avalanche starting zones could release slab avalanches to 20 inches in depth. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid and lower elevations where the hazard is expected to be LOW.
