Snowpack Structure

Since Friday the weather has been exceptionally warm. The surface of the snowpack cooled hardly at all during the overcast night. The rain will give rise as the day progresses to rapid moistening of the snowpack in all altitude zones. 5 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 2100 m. At intermediate and high altitudes there is still a very large amount of snow.

Tendency

Above approximately 1600 m snow will fall in some regions. In some localities increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall.

Avalanche Activity

Up to high altitudes rain will fall. Moist and wet avalanches and gliding avalanches are possible.

As a consequence of the rain wet and gliding avalanches are possible as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones. In particular on very steep grassy slopes the wet avalanches can slide on the ground. Slight increase in danger of dry and moist avalanches as the snowfall level drops. The new snow and wind slabs can be released very easily at high altitude, in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation caution is to be exercised on very steep slopes. The current avalanche situation calls for careful route selection.
