Avalanche Activity

SC 1.1.24 Isolated pockets of windslab, mostly sheltered terrain SE to SW aspects above 900 metres. Avalanche hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: New unstable windslab will continue to develop on South-East to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Steep wind sheltered areas such as gully tops and corrie rims will be most affected. Elsewhere, any wind exposed terrain will be scoured with older snow very firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining cold at all levels with light snowfall during the morning. Gale force winds, mainly from the North-North-West then turning North-West late afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Little snow overnight, light snow showers from dawn. The freezing level dropped throughout the morning, around -4 degrees by midday at 900 metres. Very strong winds throughout, mainly North-North-East but turning Northerly early afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: There is a light covering of new snow above 500 metres with pockets of unstable deeper snow mainly on South and South-West aspects above 900 metres.
