Seward and Lost Lake

With no significant weather inputs today, the snowpack in the Seward and Lost Lake zone remains generally stable. Triggering an avalanche today is unlikely, but never completely out of the question.  Practice safe travel protocols by moving through avalanche terrain one at a time, maintaining communication and visual contact with your partners, and grouping up in safe spots well away from runout zones.

Temperatures should be mild, with light winds across most of the Seward and Lost Lake zone today.  The exception may be in the lower elevations near Resurrection Bay, where winds are forecast to gust into the 20s from the north.  Today's weather isn't expected to change the avalanche hazard much, as we're in a generally stable regime.  Steep northerly terrain is still holding onto dry snow, where shallow wind slabs and fast-running sluffs are problems to watch out for, particularly in the alpine.  On slopes with a southerly tilt, it's getting warm enough in the afternoons that we may start to feel a suncrust and/ or rollerballs in steeper terrain.  As always, maintain safe travel protocols, minimize your consequences if a slope does slide, and get outside to enjoy the sunshine, long days, and a generally stable snowpack!
