Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger. In some localities increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

The wind slabs can be released in some cases above approximately 2400 m. They are to be avoided in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling, caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. As a consequence of warming, the likelihood of dry and moist avalanches being released will increase a little on rocky sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with the old snowpack. Over a wide area various wind slab layers are lying on a hard crust. In high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In all regions as well as in all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.

Tendency

The weather conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snow drift accumulations.
