TO for 29.03 Summit rain. Depletion of snow cover at all levels. Old stable snow patches will slowly thaw. Avalanche Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: There will be a depletion of snow cover at all levels. Shallow accumulations will gradually disappear and the existing old stable snow patches will slowly thaw. Greatest accumulations of the old snow will be found on the highest North and East facing coires, especially around coire rims and gully tops. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation throughout the period, with only a few hours respite overnight. This will fall entirely as rain as the freezing level will remain above the summits throughout. South-Easterly summit gales developing by Wednesday afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: It was dry at first with rain becoming established by late morning. This fell as wet snow on the highest summits, especially on the inland ranges. Strong South-Easterly winds with the freezing level around 1000 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: A cosmetic dusting of wet snow lies on the highest summits, especially on inland ranges. Some isolated surface instabilities are present on steep slopes where fresh deposits overlie old snow. The old snow, which is stable and well bonded, can be found mainly in the highest North and East facing coires. The avalanche hazard is Low.
