Wind slab
- Above treeline
The wind slabs can be released in isolated cases in all aspects above the tree line.
The wind slabs can be released in isolated cases in all aspects above the tree line.
Slab avalanches are possible in isolated cases. In the regions of the north exposed to the foehn wind a moderate danger of dry avalanches will be encountered in some localities. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls in all aspects and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Small to medium-sized avalanches are possible. There is a danger of falling on the hard crust.
The snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a crust that is strong in many cases. As a consequence of new snow and a strong wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed in the last few days especially in the regions of the north exposed to the foehn wind. Field observations confirm that the stability of the snowpack varies greatly within a small area. Weak layers exist in the snowpack.
The avalanche danger will decrease gradually.
