As the day progresses the likelihood of moist snow slides and avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on rocky slopes. This applies on east, south and west facing slopes below approximately 2900 m, and on north facing slopes below approximately 2300 m. The more recent wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads, in particular on north, east and southeast facing slopes and generally at high altitude. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found in extremely steep terrain at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and at transitions into gullies and bowls.
Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise in the afternoon to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In particular in shady places that are protected from the wind, high altitudes: Towards its surface, the snowpack is soft; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow.
