Tetons
Pericolo valanghe
In sintesi
Exceptional snowfall rates ending yesterday evening brought 30 inches of snow in 36 hours. Winds with the snow were strong from the southwest to west creating easily triggered soft slabs to four feet in depth on lee slopes at mid and upper elevations. The new snow rests on smooth sun crusts on sunlit aspects where loose slides will rapidly build to dangerous size. These slides will be easily triggered by humans and will run naturally with expected sunshine. TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED. Isolated pockets of loose sloughs could be triggered at the lower elevations in very steep terrain.
Avalanche Discussion
Snow showers are to move in overnight and increase on Thursday as the first wave of the next low pressure system impacts the area. Southwest winds are to increase to averages near twenty miles per hour during the day and temperatures should rise into the mid twenties. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate throughout the higher elevations of Western Wyoming. Backcountry riders and skiers will have the potential to trigger pockets of soft slabs to depths of two feet in steep wind loaded avalanche terrain.
