At the upper elevations yesterday's strong southwest to northwest winds and new snow increased the load on existing slabs and created pockets of shallow wind slab up to a foot deep on leeward aspects. A cornice failure was reported to have triggered a two foot deep slab avalanche on a north aspect of Peaked Mountain. Humans who venture into steep avalanche starting zones could trigger slab avalanches up to 30 inches deep. Mostly stable snow exists at the mid and lower elevations.

A cold high pressure ridge will keep conditions dry. On Sunday skies will be partly cloudy. Temperatures will be near 10 degrees in the morning and will rise into the upper 20s to low 30s. Winds will back towards the southwest and increase to 20 miles per hour by evening.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the upper elevations (9,000 to 10,500 feet). Humans who venture into very steep avalanche starting zones or cliff areas could trigger slab avalanches up to two feet in depth. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid and lower elevations where the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW.
